My name is Liandro Roger, I am a cartoonist and teacher. I create drawings and comics - sometimes playing a bit with animation as well. I teach about art, design and creativity.
I am one of those few people who have never stopped drawing. As a kid, I remember having fun creating characters and copying illustrations from Disney movies and "Monica's Gang" comics. When I was still a teenager, I started receiving my first "commissions". But things started to become professional around 2006, when I was graduating in Advertising school.
I worked with illustration, graphic design and art direction in agencies and as a freelancer. Then, I started teaching drawing lessons to children, and this led me to open "Oficina de Desenho", my own studio/school that operated until 2013, when I had the opportunity to become a faculty member at UFC (Federal University of Ceara), where I am to this day. Studying webcomics, I completed a master's degree in Communication and have been teaching classes in basic drawing, cartoon drawing, character design, art direction and design history. I currently coordinate "Clube do Sketch", a project that aims to create a community of blossoming artists and seeks to foster a drawing culture inside and outside the university. I'm also currently taking my doctorate degree in Psychology, where I research about drawing and creative thinking in environmental relationships.
But it was not the academic journey that shaped my artistic expression. Over the course of several years, I studied in a “self-taught” manner through online art platforms such as Schoolism, Proko, New Masters Academy, Iconic and Revolution. I also had the opportunity to experience courses, mentoring, workshops and personal feedback sessions with talented artists such as Stephen Silver, Stan Prokopenko, Iliya Mirochnik, Hiro Kawahara, Renato Alarcão, Daniel Brandão, JJ Marreiro, Anchises Queiroz and William Barreto. Standing on the shoulders of these giants and with persistent practice, I gradually felt my artistic path take shape and direction.
In recent years, I've had the honor of participating in important art events, including the Piracicaba Humor Exhibition (São Paulo), one of the largest international showcases of comic drawing, and the thematic exhibitions “How Funny! Beethoven in caricatures, cartoons and comics” and “Beethoven, Du bist der Grösste!” in the cities of Bonn and Koblenz, Germany.
Since 2018, I have maintained work partnerships with Proko (USA), an online school for art training. There, I launched a video lesson of my own about creative ideation techniques. Until 2023, I also collaborated by creating illustrations for videos and helping several artists from different parts of the world through online critique/portfolio review sessions. I am currently developing my first complete course on this platform.
And I'm still drawing! I love telling humorous stories using the simplified, iconic and expressive visual language of cartooning. I draw almost every day and I am always seeking to learn and evolve.
...that is, when my boy allows me any kid-free time! 😅
